Preparing Better Teachers for Tomorrow (PBTT)

A sustained research and development effort by the Center on Education and Training for Employment (CETE) has included several national identification and verification projects that rigorously defined the professional competencies important to career-related teachers and instructors. In 1995, a DACUM occupational analysis workshop was sponsored by Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to revise and update the competencies believed to be important to career-related teachers/instructors. These competencies were then verified by a stratified national sample of 217 top performing career-related teachers and instructors. This new research became the basis initially for the development of three new modules on the integration of academic and vocational instruction and is currently providing the basis for the revision and updating of many of the original 132 PBTE modules. Several modules have already been revised and more are underway at this time.
